Agricultural and Forestal District Advisory CommitteeThe Agricultural and Forestal District Advisory Committee is established pursuant to the Code of Virginia and is charged with providing advice and recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on the creation and renewal of Agricultural and Forestal Districts, the addition and withdrawal of parcels to Agricultural and Forestal Districts, and policies and procedures related to Agricultural and Forestal Districts.
Agricultural Development Advisory CommitteeThe Fauquier County Agricultural Advisory Committee is established as a standing committee to promote the agricultural industry with Fauquier County, increase the economic viability of farming and advise the Board of Supervisors on matters affecting the agricultural economy and its development.
Airport CommitteeThe purpose of the Fauquier County Airport Committee is to serve as the management body for the Board of Supervisors and the County Administrator to oversee the operation of the Warrenton-Fauquier Airport.
Architectural Review BoardThrough the authority enacted by the Code of Virginia, and as established by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors, the mission of the Architectural Review Board shall be to protect against the deterioration, destruction of, or encroachment upon historic districts and cultural areas; encourage uses which will lead to their continuance, conservation, and improvement in an appropriate manner, and to assure that new structures and uses within each district will be in keeping with the character to be preserved and enhanced.
Board of AssessorsBoard of Assessors is active during period of the General Reassessment of Real Estate in Fauquier County.
Board of Building AppealsThe Board of Building Appeals was established pursuant to the Code of Virginia and is charged with hearing appeals of decisions made by the Building Official relative to the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code.
Board of EqualizationBoard of Equalization is active during period of the General Reassessment of Real Estate in Fauquier County.
Board of SupervisorsThe Board of Supervisors, elected by the people, serves, by law, as the governing body of the County. The Board sets goals and objectives; establishes priorities for County programs and services; establishes County legislative and administrative policies through the adoption of ordinances and resolutions; appoints the County Administrator and members of various boards and commissions; adopts the annual budget; appropriates funds; and sets tax rates.
Board of Supervisors/School Board LiaisonThe purpose of the Board of Supervisors/School Board Liaison Committee is to continue and expand communication between the Board of Supervisors and the School Board on matters of joint interest.
Board of Zoning AppealsThrough the authority enacted by the Code of Virginia, and as established by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors, the Board of Zoning Appeals has approval authority for Variance and Special Permit applications. The Board of Zoning Appeals is also charged with hearing all appeals of Zoning Administrator determinations, with the authority to uphold or overturn such decisions.
Broadband Advisory CommitteeThe Fauquier Broadband Advisory Committee serves as an advisory body to the Board of Supervisors on broadband internet matters, by assisting in the exploration of internet accessibility options, solutions and services for Fauquier County citizens.
Community Policy and Management TeamThe community policy and management team manages the cooperative effort in the community to better serve the needs of troubled and at-risk youths and their families and to maximize the use of state and community resources. Appointments to the CPMT Committee are made pursuant to Sections 2.2-5204 & 2.2-5205 of the Code of Virginia.
Economic Development AuthorityThe Economic Development Authority of Fauquier County, Virginia (formerly known as the Industrial Development Authority) is authorized to approve tax-exempt bonds to finance the acquisition of land, building, and new capital equipment for certain businesses and nonprofit organizations located in the County. These Industrial Revenue Bonds are available to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and manufacturing businesses that meet the qualifications and restrictions defined in the U.S. Tax Code.
Electoral BoardThe three member Electoral Board (appointed by the Circuit Court) and the General Registrar (appointed by the Electoral Board) have the mission of maintaining an accurate list of registered voters and administering elections in a fair, efficient and equitable manner.
Facilities Planning and ImplementationThe Finance Planning and Implementation Committee consists of two members of the Board of Supervisors appointed by the Board on an annual basis. The Committee serves as the Board of Supervisors’ designee for oversight of general government capital projects exceeding $100,000 intended to improve or expand facilities, to include utility projects and grant-funded projects, such as the Airport. Scope excludes School projects and scheduled maintenance of major systems (HVAC, roofs, etc.).
Finance CommitteeThe Finance Committee consists of two members of the Board of Supervisors appointed by the Board on an annual basis. The Committee serves as the Board of Supervisors’ designee for oversight of Fauquier County’s finances, making recommendations to the Board on matters including but not limited to review of the County’s financial policies, long-term financing recommendations, proposed budget actions, and other matters related to the County’s current and anticipated fiscal condition.
Library BoardThe Fauquier County Public Library Board of Trustees serves as a link between the Library and the community, representing the needs and views of Fauquier County residents for the development of responsive, quality library services. Board members work with the Library Director and staff to study, evaluate, and develop library policies and long-range plans.
Lord Fairfax Community College BoardA 14-member board manages the local affairs of Lord Fairfax Community College. Board members represent the following political subdivisions: Clarke, Fauquier, Frederick, Page, Rappahannock, Shenandoah, and Warren counties and the city of Winchester.
(OPEB) Trust Finance CommitteeThe Other Post-Employment Benefits (OPEB) Trust Finance Committee was established to monitor the OPEB trust pursuant to Section 15.2-1544 of the Code of Virginia for the purpose of accumulating and investing assets to fund Other Post-Employment Benefits, in the form set forth in the Virginia Pooled OPEB Trust Fund Agreement.
Parks and Recreation BoardThe Fauquier County Parks and Recreation Board is dedicated to the enhancement of the quality of life for all people in Fauquier County. Working in partnership with the people, the Department shall provide the leadership to assure that citizens receive high quality recreational facilities and services. The Board shall also provide for leisure recreation/education opportunities and facilities for all residents of Fauquier County, to pursue and be responsible for the preservation and beautification of natural and historical sites, and shall endeavor to insure the provision of these sites for the future.
Personnel CommitteeThe Personnel Committee consists of two members of the Board of Supervisors appointed by the Board on an annual basis. The Committee serves as the Board of Supervisors’ designee for oversight of Fauquier County’s human resources, making recommendations to the Board on matters including review of the county's personnel policies; recruiting, selecting, and retaining quality employees; and administering a comprehensive human resources program that is consistent with federal, state, and local laws/regulations, and that meets the needs of the divisions and the citizens of Fauquier County.
Planning CommissionThe Planning Commission is supported by the Department of Community Development and is an advisory board to the Board of Supervisors. The Planning Commission’s responsibilities include providing recommendations to the Board of Supervisors for special exceptions, rezoning, Comprehensive Plan amendments and on other related land development issues. The Planning Commission updates the Comprehensive Plan on a periodic basis, and prepares text amendment changes to the Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances upon its own initiative or Board of Supervisors direction.
Public Safety CommitteeThe Public Safety Committee consists of two members of the Board of Supervisors appointed by the Board on an annual basis. The mission of the Public Safety Committee is to review matters pertinent to the health, safety and welfare of the residents of Fauquier County and make recommendations to the full Board of Supervisors as to what actions should be undertaken.
Purchase of Development Rights Selection ReviewThe PDR Committee is appointed by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors to assist in the review of PDR applications and to prepare recommendations for the purchase of development rights on qualified farm properties.
Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services BoardRappahannock-Rapidan Community Services is a regional service provider for local government created as a result of the acts of the Virginia General Assembly and the Federal Older Americans Act. The mission of the Community Services Board is to improve the quality of life of the citizens of Planning District 9 by providing comprehensive behavioral health, intellectual disability, substance use disorder, and aging services.
Social Services BoardThe purpose of the Social Services Board is to advise the County on issues relevant to accomplishing the mission of the Fauquier Department of Social Services, which is to promote self–reliance and protection through the provision of community based services.
Towing and Recovery Advisory BoardThe mission of the Fauquier County Towing and Recovery Advisory Board is to protect the public by setting standards of qualifications, training, and experience for those who seek to represent themselves to the public as towing and recovery professionals, and to promote high standards of professional performance for those engaged in the practice of towing and recovery.
Town-County Liaison CommitteeThe purpose of the Town-County Liaison Committee is to provide a forum for representatives of local Towns and Fauquier County to discuss matters of mutual interest and concern including but not limited to governmental services, transportation and land use planning.
Transportation CommitteeThe Transportation Committee serves as an advisory body to the Board of Supervisors and other County Boards and Commissions on all transportation related matters. The committee assists in prioritizing the County’s transportation needs and makes recommendations in conjunction with updates to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Six-Year Plan for primary and secondary roads. The committee works to implement and further the County’s transportation element of the Comprehensive Plan. The committee works with the Public Safety Committee to make recommendations concerning public safety. The committee works to place the County’s transportation planning efforts within a regional context.
Water and Sanitation BoardIt is the mission of the Fauquier County Water and Sanitation Authority to provide central water and sewer services to both existing and future customers at the lowest practicable rates, consistent with the County's Comprehensive Plan, that meets or exceeds the quality of the requirements established by Commonwealth and Federal regulatory standards.
The Fauquier County Water and Sanitation Authority (the “Authority”) is an independent political subdivision of the Commonwealth empowered by the Virginia Water and Waste Authorities Act - § 15.2-5100 et. seq. of the Code of Virginia, 1950 and as amended, to provide public utilities throughout the County of Fauquier, and is not a department of Fauquier County.
WSA/County Liaison CommitteeThe purpose of the WSA/County Liaison Committee is to provide a forum for representatives of the Fauquier County Water & Sanitation Authority and Fauquier County to discuss matters of mutual interest and concern including but not limited to water and sewer in Fauquier County.
